Mental Health America has an online screening test to determine whether you are experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition such as depression or anxiety.  These conditions are common and treatable. And recovery is possible.

Goals

  • Work in partnership with community members and organizations with a purpose to prevention suicide deaths in Kent County.
  • Promote trainings offered in the community on suicide prevention.
  • Provide support to survivors of suicide loss through the Survivor Outreach Program.
  • Provide data on suicide deaths to monitor trends.

Mission

The Healthy Kent Suicide Prevention Coalition exists to reduce suicide attempts and deaths by suicide in Kent County through broad community commitment to suicide prevention and support strategies.

The Healthy Kent Suicide Prevention Coalition meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 3:30pm to 5:00pm, both virtual and in-person meetings.

Accomplishments

Participate in the annual National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month – September

  • A time to create public awareness about this leading cause of death and to encourage more people to learn how they can play a role in helping to save lives and spread the hopeful message that help is available and suicide can be prevented.
  • Coalition partners offered free community trainings on Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR), Mental Health First Aid, and Assessing & Managing Suicide Risk.

Coalition partners sponsored the showing of the documentary “My Ascension”.  This film is about the suicide attempt of 16-year-old Emma Benoit that left her paralyzed.

Creation of the Kent County Mental Health Crisis Brochure (also available in Spanish) that provides a pathway to help people get to the correct resource based on the type of health insurance a person has.
